Out of the three million people who call Panama their home, more than
a third live in the cosmopolitan city of Panama. Panama City is the capital
of the country and its commercial center. It is a lively metropolis that
offers the traveler (whether business or pleasure) a wide variety of
choices in dining, lodging and entertainment. Panama City is dotted
with brand new high-rise condominium towers that pierce the sky and
stand watch over the waters of the Bay of Panama.
Panama City has a rich history dating back to the 16th century. The
area known as Old Panama is an interesting place to explore. The
visitor can ramble through ruins of a place once daringly sacked by
the infamous pirate, Captain Henry Morgan. Another worthwhile place
to visit in the city is Casco Viejo, the site of the city’s old Spanish
colonial heritage.
But there is so much more to the province of Panama than the city!
The nearby beach resorts of Santa Clara, Decameron, Coronado and
Farralon are about an hour’s drive from Panama City and have attracted
a large number of weekend and full-time residents. With modern
infrastructure and resort facilities that rival any in the world, these
beach resorts represent a fine choice in Panama lifestyle.
Excellent swimming beaches, a variety of restaurants and shopping
venues, excellent accessabily and infrastructure make this part of
Panama a place of continued growth and development.
But it isn’t all about the beach in this province, either. Near the little
village of Sora the mountains of Panama province offer cool hillside
locations and developments such as Altos del Maria have arisen to
take advantage of the ideal year-round temperate weather (around 75
degrees in all seasons) and the breathtaking natural beauty just a half
hour from area beaches and an hour and a half to Panama City.
Panama province is a natural destination for those who want to have a
choice of beach or mountain climate, infrastructure, amenities and
recreational venues all within easy access of city life.
